Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all.

I received an 80 g external hd for my computer. What i want to do is leave only my OS on the original 30g hd and put everything else on the external. Is this possible? I have alot of graphics, graphics programs....you know, all that stuff that slows your system down. Any help here?

Hope everyone is having a great holiday. And not in a dead rush for this, whenever you have time.

Thanks

It's a simple matter. Make a folder on the external drive and name it anything you like. Drag and drop (select "Move") any files you want to store there.

I'm not sure what you mean by "leave only my OS on the original 30g hd"; but, I would not install programs to the USB drive as the periodic reinitializations of the USB drive will cause program errors.

I recommend against installing applications on external drives. Not only it the interface far slower than an internal drive, but if the drive is off or disconnected, you'll obviously have issues with those applications, and potentially others.

BTW, lots of data on an internal drive doesn't "slow your system down". :)

Hi,

Any applications installed on the external hard drive may not work properly if you attempt to use them on an different computer. As the required registry entries will not be there. These would only be in place from installing th eprogram on the other computers. You may also run into Licening problems with trying to do this.

Data yes, programs probably not.
Unless every pc you connect the laptop to has software installed to be able to read the data on the external drive.

Obviously with the nore common programs such as Word, Excel etc this may not be a problem.

hth
