My mistake it is Acomdata HD500UHE5-72.
It is recognized as USB connection when it is turned on. Appears in My Computer as CD Drive (empty).
Running Windows XP Home.
Info was saved to the drive when it was recognized as a USB connected hard drive.....
ALSO, it actually has 2 entries in the Device Manager under DVD/CD Rom Drives - the one mentioned in the original posting (SCSI) and also DMI USB2.0 CD-ROM USB Device...
Thank you for the information. I had first thought it may have been some type of glitch with one particular computer's Windows configuration. You might try contacting Acomdata customer support by first registering on their site and them submitting a support request:
Their PC users troubleshooting guide has a section on unrecognized drives but not one on drives that are not identified correctly. Not sure if it would help with your problem since it happens on more than one computer.
