My son tried a new 80 gig ACOMDATA external drive on his MAC before he gave it to me as a gift. The drive as a new device will not initialize on my WINDOWS ME based Gateway Athlon PC. No drive letter is assigned yet the green arrow in the trough in the lower right of the desktop shows a drive with no letter assigned. MYCOMPUTER shows no new device. I read the Quickstart literature for the drive and it states that use on multiple platforms MAC & PC is available. Unfortunately it also states that to do this the drive should be started up first on the PC and second on the MAC. Since this order was not followed I suspect the drive has a MAC file system on it and the PC refuses my access to intialize it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem like' How do I reformat a disk if I have no drive letter' or does the MAC side offer some solution. So far my multiple Email's over the past 7 days to ACOMDATA have not been answered. So much for there 72 hour(3day) response time. Do I have to give this drive back to my son for his permanent use and buy a new drive? Do all USB/FIREWARE external drives have this quirky capability and init sequence requirement?
