External enclosure issue

I have a TOSHIBA 1TB USB 2.0 external HDD. The plastic shell is removed and the HDD is assembled into a good quality all-metal USB 3.0 enclosure.

Its connected thru a good-quality USB 3.0 hub with its own power supply. The cable has good quality too.

Normally, it works without problems with my Win 8.1 x64 laptop, however after some time when its leaved idle, I cannot Safely Remove it (also right click doesn't work on the Explorer), despite I can still access the files. Then I remove it manually and reconnect it, Remove Safely becomes possible for a short time.

Also, I get this error:

It had no issues when it was in its original 2.0 enclosure.

Any idea is highly appreciated!

Try directly connecting to the PC (ie: without the hub).

Some external USB drives have issues with hubs, and also with cable length. Some external USB3 drives ship with a rather short cable (for example), and often won't work directly connected if a longer cable is used.
