I have Win XP, current and up to date. Yesterday when I logged on (Explorer 7), I got the dreaded 404 file not found error. My homepage is www.cnn.com and I thought maybe there was a problem with the site but a friend's computer goes no problems. I downloaded Firefox, same thing happens. I am running the latest Zone Alarm firewall and Anti-spyware, along with AVG free. I think it may be the firewall blocking me for some reason, but I can't figure out why....thanks in advance for your help!

Tried that, still no good. I changed my homepage to CNN International, opens no problem. However when I click the link to CNN US edition, no good. Times out, 404 error. My laptop works no problem..... I haven't installed any new software recently either. Very strange...

What spyware program do you use? perhaps there was a hompage hijack attempt that kind of threw things array. Try doing some cleaning with the following programs.

Ad-Aware SE Personal
I run this daily
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1
I update once a week (keeps bad pages with known malware that cold cause damage from being displayed.)
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Daily or every other day
CwShredder
This is one I only use once a week or month lol but good to have
AVG Anti-Spyware
I run this daily

Get lucky and they may be able to clean it if there is somthing as such.

I'm going out on a limb on this one but heck it will not hurt to try.
lets try a DNS flush
Click Start - Run, type cmd and hit enter. Now at the prompt type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes and hit ENTER.

let us know if this helps.

I would post a Hijack Log to see if anything shows up

Download Hijack This to your desktop open it and click on the Hijack.exe it will open and use the default path, check do you wish an Icon.......click on Icon and choose scan system and save a logfile usually in notepad.....copy and paste the logfile in your next post, using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.
