explorer problem

3494 Views 30 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cybertech
Can someone help?
On startup,I get an error:
'The shortcut Gstartup.lnk refers to a location that is unavailable.the location could be on a harddrive on this computer or on a network.check to make sure the disk is properly inserted or that you are connected to the internet, then try again'

then once the desktop is loaded,I cannot open internet explorer,I keep getting an error:
'Explorer has caused an error in MSIESH.DLL.Explorer will now close, try restarting.'

..when I check the properties of explorer, the default address is
' res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213'.

What is wrong with the explorer?

HI,
I 'fixed' the files you instructed, but had problems with your second request.I rebooted in safe but could not find 'folder opt' in tools of IE, I did another adware, spybot and McA scan, all came up clean, here is the latest hjt .

The folder options is in Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer.

Can you tell me what this program is?
C:\PROGRAM FILES\REF EGGS VIEW\SURF TRUST BONE.EXE

If you don't know find SURF TRUST BONE.EXE, right click, go to properties, version tab and tell me what is in
Comments
Company Name
Internal Name

I found the folder 'ref eggs view' , it contains
Boreremote, ikgoopfv, irrgekie, mail default, pile, surf trust bone & yxiaosuw, there is only a 'general' tab for each aplication with date and size
Doesn't sound legit to me. If you don't know what it is

Run HJT again and check:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Gram Active] C:\PROGRA~1\REFEGG~1\Surf Trust Bone.exe

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Delete the C:\PROGRAM FILES\REF EGGS VIEW --> folder
I ran HJT twice, checking the 'surf trust bone', but it's still there, would deleting the folder be wise ?
I also had the same problem. I ran the HijackThis scan and here are the results. if someone would help me it would be appriciated. thanks

patd, Yes delete the folder if you have to do it in safe mode.

Restart in safe mode Click here to see how
ccrunner8403,
Welcome to TSG. In the future please start your own thread, OK?

Click on the link below to download CWshredder.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Run the program and let it do it's thing. Make sure to click on "Fix" and not scan only.

Reboot

Download Spybot http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy.htm

Make sure to follow the instructions for updates prior to running the scan.

Click on "Search For updates" After the search has completed, the available Updates will be listed. Choose which Updates you would like to Download. Click "Download updates." The Updates will self install. The screen will change and the program will come back and be ready to use.

Sometimes the default Download Location will produce an Error. If that happens, look in the right panel. There you will find a small arrow next to the name of the current Download site. Click on it for a list of alternate sites. One of those should be able to retrieve the files you have selected.

Scan, click on fix problems then reboot.

Next:

Download AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by clicking

on "Check for updates now", connect.

Click on Start, Use custom scanning options, Customize.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"

"Scan within archives"
"Scan active processes"
"Scan registry"
"Deep scan registry"
"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL"
"Scan my host-file"

Click on Tweak,
Select scanning engine and click on "Unload recognized processes during scanning"
Select cleaning engine and click on "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Then click "proceed" to save your settings.

Click on Next

Run the scan and fix everything.

Reboot and post another HJT log for review.

I followed your advice and rebooted in safe, then deleted the folder
'ref eggs view' that 'surf' was in. While looking into this from your last post, I noticed the date downloaded, 3/17/04, so this folder was fairly new, but I'm stumped, even doing a 'google' , I only came up with 1 hit,and that was a tech help site (not this), that showed a hjt with that same folder. Does anyone know what this is?
Anyhow, thanks for everything
You're welcome. No I've only see it a couple of times and I don't know where it's coming from. Maybe someone else knows. ??
