So, I've recently been encountering a problem when I'm on my computer for awhile.

Explorer.exe will lock up, and then, if i'm not fast enough to stop it in the task manager, Dr.Watson Postmortem Debugger will try to run, but in the end that encounters and error too. But if I'm fast enough to end drwtsn32.exe in the task manager, explorer.exe just reloads itself, and then it's okay for a little while until the cycle repeats again.

Studying the times when it happens, it's almost always happening when I'm running MSN Explorer on my account. Other times it'll jsut be for no reason and nothing's loaded.

Think it'd be solved if I re-installed MSN Explorer? I really don't want to do that, since I don't know how to get the installation files again, since I've had it since I installed Verizon DSL on my computer.

Help? Any suggestions are appreciated =D

Yeah, I have SP2.

But I don't tihnk it's an update. my problem's been going on since August..maybe September. No articles about in Microsoft, no search engine help either...
And even though Im' not too knowledgable in HJT logs, I look at my own and I recognize every running program and registry key. So I doubt it's a virus or anything.

If you did run scans for all types of malware, (virus, worms, spyware, etc), then I would try to run the system file checker utility. Just click your start, run, and type; sfc /scannow ,(with that space in there too), then have your XP CD ready to put in for needed files. Did you check all the start-up programs listed in the msconfig.exe utility which start with windows?

1. Did all the scans, even scanned in safe mode to see if anything was infected. My system's clean.
2. Hah hah...that's the funny thing. I can't run the SFC. My XP CD got broken in a move, and it was an update CD so I can't really do anything unless I buy a whole new CD.
3. all programs are checked is msconfig

Umm, it doesn't cost anything. It's tollfree. Also, the tech support was free as well. I'll send you the number. You may be on hold for a while, but it's worth it.

I would tell you the steps to take, but I don't know if the problems you are having and the ones I was having are the same. Also, the steps were quite extensive.
