if i try to open any folder from the desktop, or open my computer from the start menu, explorer will crash, showing me just my background for about two seconds, and a balloon saying "you have files waiting to be written to CD, click this balloon to continue" pops up on the bottom right. clicking on the balloon does nothing but crash the explorer again with the same results. so basically right now i'm limiting to using programs that i have shortcuts in the taskbar for..

Try starting in safe mode to either write the files or delete them.
