Explain to me Israeli support

9283 Views 297 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  linskyjack
Have read many articles over the past couple of years concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and understand the basics of the conflict, I think, but I do not understand why the US Government seems to want to back Israel no matter what they do.
Examples:
1) If terrorist lives in this home then terrorist is killed and family home destroyed even if home is filled with other family members not involved.
2) Arbitrarily annex territory at whim taking over others lands Palestinians have homesteaded for years and use as Israel pleases.
3) The killing of a wheelchair bound, blind and deaf leader.

I assume there is some history to this backing and wish to know.

Maybe my really not knowing could get this thread in trouble and if it does then I will close and delete it.
I really would like to know why though.
Anywhere I look I do not see anything written on it. It is like a silent question.

I sincerely hope anyone that posts keeps this question in the innocent context it was asked in and does not turn it to flame.

Read through your post you linked and "Oh my Gosh!!!!!"
I definitely will get the book "The Fateful Triangle" and read it.

Thanks for the abbreviated version of your thought on the subject. The frightful part I conclude from your listing is the Oil connection.

Albert
I will do some research into that incident thank you.
Also see another reference to Oil.

PS: I hope this whole business between Israel and Palestine does not pardon the pun boil down to Oil!!

Wow I see you have spent a great deal of time studying this subject. thank you very much for the incite. The Balfour letter will certainly get read. Diaspora = "The dispersion of Jews outside of Israel from the sixth century B.C., when they were exiled to Babylonia, until the present time."
Is this historical truth or speculation - "It was blamed on the Palestinians, but was actually done by the Jews."
Also why would the US feel guilty toward the Jewish people?

Thanks Oldie! I see this conflict is moving backward in time to the referenced Balfour Document which I see is a must read.

Dave

PS: Thanks Guys........ Keep the info coming I really appreciate it.

Pardon my ignorance but who is the We in "we received a letter from the headquarters of the United Resistance" and whom is the United Resistance?

Dave
Albert
Thanks! I am getting a real lesson here.
I still am not sure if that explains why the US is so adamant about backing Israel but I am sure the connection will come unless of course it is really oil.

I guess it depends on how the land was lost.

GB
Not sure I place a great deal of credence on the statement "that any nation which turns its back on the Jews shall perish". Sounds to much like the twisting of the Holy Qur'an for militant support.

Paq
Thanks for the all the background in this conflict and the creation of the Jewish state. Much makes more sense now.

I and many others here in the states find it refreshing to have other views about our History but sometimes find it hard to swallow a bitter pill. Eventually the pill goes down but not without a fuss.

What has been written here in this thread will take some time to absorb since the sponge is not what it used to be. But I do appreciate the historical education.

Oldie
I find nothing wrong with criticizing oneself whether a person or a Nation. That is how we discover better ways to accomplish tasks.

Paq
Also to answer your indirect question of Knowledge of History...... We Americans were and are slaves of our educational system. History was a mandatory subject in school but very little emphasis was placed on World History. Besides History taught in the latter years of education vs the younger years tends to cause its students to be let me say less interested since other emotional factors are rising in them. (Not an excuse just an observation)

No I did not. I had to work and cannot afford time off.
I did however listen to the broadcast of his presentation as I generally do to all candidates.
It will be interesting to here the 9-11 commissions questioning of Condoleezza Rice. A must hear or see....... drilling. I am sure the questioning will fall on party lines again but never the less it will be interesting.

Dave

PS: Lets try and stay on track of this thread though.

I said "It depends on how it was lost."
I will review your posting later and let you know what I think in that regard.

Interesting!
I would say that the the US used the term annexation to take what they wanted as we did from the American Indian and gave virtually nothing in return. When the resistance ensued unfortunately the weaker of the two will loose its rights and in many cases loose their lives.
This does not make it right, nor was it the right thing to do but unfortunately man claiming to be the most civilized creature of this World is probably the least civilized when it comes to money, land, and now oil.
As far as the Jews and Israel I am not completely versed in the circumstances as of yet to give an intelligent answer to my opinion.
However my belief is whomever was there first and developed the land to support their clan carries the rights to the land. If it is lost to conquerors that does not change the right, only creates an injustice that will revolve in the repeat of history.

Dave
Not sure what is being said here.
IK and Paq have two conflicting views on what transpired. Lets not let this go to flame please.
Somewhere there is truth to the matter and that is what I would like to know.
I have learned so much from you guys and am finally getting to the point I may understand what happened so lets see where this goes.

Dave
Thanks Guys!
I think I have a greater understanding as to the Plight of the Mid-East (especially Israel and Palestine). Even though I do not have a definitive answer to why the US seems to be turning a blind eye I do have a generally flavor for what is going on there and the history behind it.

In General.....
It seems Peace, for centuries, has been a hard fought process for much of the Mid-East. Even when it has occurred in certain areas some other country decided to upset the apple cart. It appears these ill feelings toward westerners\foreigners has much foundation in History.

If anyone has more to add to this discussion please do. I am finding this enlightening. I am sure many if not all of you enlightened ones have formed strong opinions in this matter and I appreciate that you did not voice them and remained on a factual course. From this and what may be presented further I believe I can develop my own opinion.

Please note: I personally do not absorb tonnes of material very quickly so please be patient with me while I read and reread all the material and links provided.

Take care

Thanks for the long read!
Do not know what to say about all that except.... Oh My gosh!!!

Dave

I tend to agree with Paq on this argument.
However..........
From what I have read I also tend to agree with you that the Israeli occupation and eventually giving Sovereign State status was wrong but in the same vein the take over of the Texas, New Mexico, and California territories was wrong.... also was our confiscating of Indian lands. The list goes on and on through-out the World and has since the beginning of animals and plant life inhabiting this planet.
Does not make it right but there is little we can do about the past at this juncture. All we can do is try and prevent further occupations and take-overs of Sovereign Nations. That is why I feel it is so important this Israeli\Palestinian conflict needs to be settled and Palestine needs to become a State with defined borders. That will end annexation of land by Israel.
Will it end the conflict and hatred? No! I believe that will fester for centuries and hostilities will continue on and off for as long as stories are passed down from one generation to another.

Aw come on. We all know Davey had a report due at school and didn't want to do the research himself. :D
Yup and I got a 100% on it! ;)

To all that contributed to my knowledge in this thread I bow to your depth of understanding. Sometimes it only takes an open hand to fill an empty mind.

Thanks for the guidance.

Sounds like you had an fulfilling time at your friends Passover Seder. Thank you for sharing the experience.

Dave
Oh man........
How did I know that Al would find this thread and find a way to take Historical events I was questioning and politicize it to his twist.

Go for it guys you seem to think the USA is a great white conspiracy just waiting for someone to uncover!

Did either of you read the threads content from the beginning and the submitted links or is this just another avenue to politicize your thoughts!
