Hi folks, just looking through my event logs and came across ....
"The event log file is corrupt!!".
I have checked all with AV, I just wondered if anybody knew how I could get this back to its original state.

Many Thanks

Hi,

Go to Start > Run> Services.msc

Scroll down to the Event Log service, doubleclick it, set it to "disabled", and click OK.
Wait a moment for Windows to complete that action.

Now reboot, open Windows Explorer, navigate to Windows\System32\Config, and delete the corrupted file (either Appevent.evt, Sysevent.evt, or Secevent.evt)

Go back to Services.msc > Event Log, and reset it to "Automatic".

Press "Start" to restart the service.

Cheers,

Thank you very much for that it worked a treat, although it worked what caused it to get corrupt in the 1st place!!.
the only download I have done since I last checked the event logs was Yahoo messenger, would that have corrupted it.

Once again many thanks for the help :D

You're welcome.

Impossible to say what exactly causes an *.evt file to get corrupted, but at least we know how to fix it. ;)
