Ethernet stopped working after upgrade

Hi,

I upgraded my PC, previously:
AORUS B550 elite mobo
R5 5600X processor
GTX 1060 GPU
Corsair VS450 PSU
RAM 1x8GB CL15 and 1x8GB CL16 (was young and stupid when building it)

New:
AORUS B550 elite mobo
R5 5600X processor
RTX 3080 GPU
EVGA 850GQ PSU
RAM 2x16GB, matching

Added a new HDD, too

After the upgrade, everything works expect the ethernet - not working at all. It does not even detect that the cable is in, no green or yellow light at the PC side of the cable (though there is lights on the router side of the cable when I connect it).

The ethernet cable is working, tried the cable on my laptop and that works.

The ethernet adapters show up in the device manager, but only as hidden devices,
Both Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family have status as Not present and Connectivity Disconnected.

I restarted for like the fifth time and suddenly MS trobleshooter comes up iwth: "Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed netweork adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."

Tried uninstalling all network drivers and doing scan for hardware changes in device manager, but no ethernet drivers come up. Also tried downloading the official driver installer from [https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboar...S-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-lan) , however, that just runs for a while and then the installer disappears with no change, not sure if this is the intended behaviour.

Please help, I am desperate, I am trying to fix this for 5 hours now, I tried so many things I found on the internet and nothing worked. Is is possible I somehow destroyed my mobo during the update?

Thanks a lot for any help

NIC inside the computer is dead, otherwise a light would be on.
Both our desktop systems have lights. One computer is on (green light) and the other is off (green and yellow light).

So your advice is to buy a USB Ethernet adapter? That's what I'm planning on doing, just checking, will it fix this problem?

You didn't say if your PC is running Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit.

You have 2 options for replacing the motherboard's integrated ethernet device:

1. PCI Express x1 ethernet card

Circuit component Passive circuit component Rectangle Hardware programmer Computer hardware

2. USB3 ethernet adapter

Data transfer cable Usb cable Cable Rectangle Technology

Whichever one you get, make sure it supports the Windows version you're using, and make sure it's capable of gigabit or faster speeds.

OK, you list the exact same motherboard. Did you replace the board with the exact same motherboard OR did you reuse the motherboard?

Before loading up the parts cannon and firing, I would do a very simple test. Boot the system with a linux live usb. If the internet does not work with the live usb, you know the lan chip has failed. If it does work, then you know you have a windows/driver type problem.
