ESATA config help

Hi, I'm trying to get a ESATA drive running on a Asus P5W DH Deluxe.

I can't get the computer to see the drive using ESATA (Yes it does see it using USB).

I tried calling ASUS for help but finally gave up after 45 minutes waiting.

I'm using the following config:

Thermaltake N0012US http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817153061
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822148134

Anyone know if I have to do anything specific in bios to get this to work?

Thanks,
Greg

Do you turn on the external ... then turn on the computer ???
It's not plugged in as USB .. when you try to see it as eSATA ?? .. that won't work.
You going to try to boot from it ??
The esata on your system is controlled by the jmicron controller NOT the intel sata controller. Have you enabled the jmicron in the bios and installed the driver for it?
Post a screenshot of device manager.
The jmicron controller is turned on in bios.

But, when the system boots the jmicron controller is not showing any available drives.

So, the problem looks like a bios config one.

I'm trying to find out if you have to configure multiple things in bios.

You should find it in the Bios. Mine is called by the Bios as a SCSI device. I have it placed outside the box, removed all internal hard disks and booted up the XP and Vista inside.

Have you installed the driver for the controller? Are there any yellow marks in device mgr?
I did install a driver but I haven't checked the device manager yet.

I'm not going to get a chance to look into this problem until Sunday.

I'll get back to you then with more info.

Does anyone have any info on how to configure the bios on this motherboard (Asus P5W DH Deluxe) for ESATA?

I still think I'm missing some config in the bios.

Thanks,
Greg

You can't supply a driver for the Bios, right?

Since the mobo natively support eSata and has a extenal eSata port then by plugging a eSata disk it should record its presence. The presence will indicate how the eSata is handled and may give some clue on how it would be detected (in terms of order).

On my Abit Max mobo the internal Sata1, Sata2, Sata3 and Sata4 (not try the last two yet) are named as ch3 M, ch3 S, ch4 M and ch4 S, pressumably standing for Channel X Master or Slave. The sSata has designation as SCSI-0 and the single IDE channel CH1 2 (slave, with CDrom as the master). The mobo appears to assign channel 1 and 2 to IDE althought only one is present physically.

I need to feed the normal Sata driver for installing XP but Vista did not need it. However if I pull all the internal hard drives out to install Vista on the eSata then Vista can't see it and requires a Sata driver fed. In my case it is the same Sata driver supplied with the mobo.
