Hello, I get the following error on boot up:
While initializing device VKD -- Windows Protection Error -- You need to restart your computer.

I tried replacing the keyboard with a known good one, did not help. Seems like I have seen this error over the years, but who can remember.

Thank You
:)

You were absolutely right about the resolution. This should merely be a matter of a faulty keyboard according the the above article and similar articles I found throughout the net.

Did you turn your computer off before replacing the keyboard?

Also...you might want to try discharging the capacitors and restarting with the new keyboard.

1.) Unplug all power sources.
2.) Hold Power button in on computer for at least 10 seconds (I hold it for 20...why not...)
3.) Reconnect power and start the computer.

Did this resolve the problem...?

It's almost always never the keyboard with this error. It is actually, usually, a scandisk issue.

This procedure works in more than half the cases:

Hold the ctrl key immediately on startup to get the Boot Menu. From the menu select the "command prompt" option. At the c:> prompt enter:

scandisk /surface
