am getting this error when i try to login with another user

eg.

Login user1
password 123

"gets the following message"

No UTMPX entry, You must EXEC "login" for the lowest "shell"

i tried the to empty this : cat /dev/null > /etc/utmpx
cat /dev/null > /etc/wtmpx
but the problem still persists....

And one thing more should we have this process (mandatory) ie. /etc/init.d/utmpd ?

Have you check your disk usage and make sure that one of your partition is not full. Full partition can prevent to login in some case.
Code:
# df
check if the file /var/adm/wtmpx exist, if it does clean it as well
Code:
# cat /dev/null > /var/adm/wtmpx
Tell us if this works,
Angel
