Hello,

My Epson XP-420 All in One printer/scanner doesn't print anything. The pages come out blank. The cartridges have ink and I have updated the software. I don't know what could be wrong with it. I have it connected to my desktop pc via a USB cable. I have Windows 10 operating system. By the way, do you recommend upgrading to Windows 11?

Thank you.

Epson Expression Home XP-420 All-In-One Printer (support site)
What did you do with your desktop PC before the printing issue occurred?
THIS article may be helpful.

Windows 10 64-bit is being supported by Microsoft until October 2025, so don't be in a hurry to switch to Windows 11 64-bit.
We don't know the description of your desktop PC, so it may not support installing and running Windows 11 64-bit.
Windows 11 64-bit still has several bugs and issues that are being worked out, so that's another reason to wait.

Hi,
I've been to the site with the link you posted and reinstalled the XP-420 software. I didn't do anything with the desktop PC before the printing issue started. The issue was happening with a laptop I used before and now also with the desktop that I bought later, which is a Dell Inspiron 7700. It's very frustrating not to know just what is wrong with the printer.

Jolu, the printer itself will have a way of printing something, whether a report or a test page. That function works independently of a computer connection. If it cannot even print that, it is definitely an issue with the printer itself, as I suspect it is.

Actually, it's printing very faint blue lines with no letters or numbers. Blue is the only color I'm low on, all the others are okay. I printed a test page and only a few blue horizontal lines showed up. I've been able to print in black when the other colors were low before, but now it only prints the blue color for some reason.

The print heads may be clogged. Had the printer sat for a long period of time unused? Inkjet printers need to be used fairly frequently to keep the ink from solidifying in the nozzles. The heads may be replaceable, or you may be able to clean them. Look on the support site for any suggestions.

Sometimes, though probably rarely, you can run the cleaning process on the printer repeatedly and it may clean the heads, but if the ink has dried, that process may not help.

Any operation problem you may have could be caused by your computer, cable, software, or selected settings. Check the other solutions in this book or try uninstalling and reinstalling your printer software.
    • If the page prints but the nozzle check pattern has gaps, clean or align the print head.
    • If the page does not print, the product may have a problem. Check the other solutions in this manual. If they do not work, contact Epson.
