Encryption Software with File Shredder

631 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  texasbullet
I am looking for an encryption software to password protect my external Hard disk. But the it should be such that the data should be erased permanently (file shredding) if the hard disk is either used in another laptop or if the password is entered wrong twice. Any Suggestions , advice is welcome.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 Professional have bitlocker installed in it so you can turn it on if desired. Make sure to follow the instructions when using this feature. Not sure about the Home OS.

Thanks for the reply. But does it have the feature what I am looking for , i.e file shredding if password entered incorrectly or if the external hard disk is used with another laptop/desktop?
All of your documents will be encrypted until you enter your password. If someone takes it away they won't be able to open it unless they have your password.

What is BitLocker on my computer?

BitLocker is the Windows encryption technology that protects your data from unauthorized access by encrypting your drive and requiring one or more factors of authentication before it will unlock it. Windows will require a BitLocker recovery key when it detects a possible unauthorized attempt to access the data.
The other solution is to buy an external HDD which has a password protection in it. Nobody will be able to get your data without the password.

I already have this.

I am just looking for software that can remove the data from the external hard disk completely if someone tries to repeatedly input the password incorrectly multiple times.
I do not know of anything that would do this extreme request. If someone can't get into the drive then the encryption is doing it's job.
Then bitlocker is your only solution. You better know your password or else you will also be locked out of your computer.
