Hello,

I'm not sure if I have a virus or spam or both but I get about ten of the same spam emails everday which don't have a way to opt out of them. I respond back and get nothing. It doesn't seem like your normal spam, it seems to be coming from inside my system because it references my email address in different ways and so on. I have a small network of 6 computers (total) which also has a problem getting into files, I get a message saying //Brookline 16/sharedocs is not accesible. you might not have permission to use this network. contact the administrator. If anyone knows what the problem is that would be great.

Actually, you do get something. You get more spam. By responding you verify that your e-mail address is valid and someone is successfully receiving the messages. Trust me. That e-mail address is now permanently on every spammer's dream list. The only way to stop it at this point is to change your address and NEVER click on any links in those message or reply to any of them.

Oh sh-t! Is that the only way of stopping it, to change my email? Also can they (have they) hack into or send virus's into my computer or network or can they just keep sending anoying spam to my email? Thanks for your help.

You could have a virus or trojan or other spyware. You'd need a security expert to examine your log.

However, if you've been replying to spam and clicking on "opt out" links, it's pretty much a done deal that you'll be receiving endless amounts of spam for the foreseeable future.

The only way to "hack" into your system through an e-mail message is if there's malicious code in it (which hopefully your firewall would block) or if you went to a web page in one of the messages and received viruses or spyware through the site.

Otherwise, yes, they can continue to bombard your e-mail address with spam, and there's very little you can do about it.
