In the last two days I have received 2 e-mails from a place
called Online Marketing and when I try to delete them from
outlook express I receive a grey box saying that an illegal
operation has occurred and then it takes me out of the deletion
area. I am able to delete all of the other messages and these
are the only two in that category that cannot be deleted nor
read and the fact of the matter is that every time the mouse
even goes near those two messages I get the illegal operation
box. I have called prodigy and they suggested that I get
in touch with microsoft but that too has been unsuccessful
Thank you in advance for whatever you can do in this
most frustrating situation.

Just a thought.
Hey LANMaster, I am just getting curious here. Please tell me how will Shift Key help here?
In Outlook,
When you hold your shift key down, it deletes the file perminently rather than sending it to the Deleted Items folder.

Okay as I guessed. The shift key can be used everywhere throughout Windows to delete the file/mail directly instead of going to the Recycly Bin.

But this solution here does not seem to be applicable simply because the mails in question can't be selected at all. Even if they are displayed in Preview Pane, the Illegal Operation error props up. (Am I right dancennance?)

I feel this is a typical Virus Like behaviour to prevent the mails from getting deleted so that the activity that it wants to carry out cannot be stopped merely by a simple delete. It surely needs an intervention from a good Anti-Virus software.

May be there's some malicious JavaScript or VBScript code running somewhere within. But I am not too sure about this. To discard this possibility, its better to scan the machine with an AV software.

If you already don't have one which is regularly updated, go to http://www.grisoft.com and download AVG for free. Update it and scan your system.

I'm not too familiar with Outlook express (I use the full Outlook version in Office 2K Pro) So this may not even make much sense.

If your .PST file is over 2GB then Outlook will crash. Clean up can save much anguish.

Also, you may want to repair & compact your .PST file.

Right click on Personal Folders, Properties, Advanced, Compact.

In OE, go to File > Folders > Compact All Folders.

Yes buddy, you have made it clear even in your earlier posts. But as your name suggests, if you are a LANMaster, then please give benefit of your experience to me and solve one of my queries.

Here's the link. http://forums.techguy.org/t113215/s.html

As regards this thread, I think the starter of thread hasn't come back to post his experiences with the suggestions that we all have given. So it will be worthwhile to wait for him and then proceed, unless, of course, some one has a solution that hits the bull's eye. This is just a suggestion.

*cough*
I also posted that "Master" is what I aspire to be.
I will examine your link, and if I have a clue, then I will do my best to respond to both.
:D
I agree. Let's see what he has tried, and if he still has issues.
Just trying to help.
