I have bought 3 different dvd players(for tv) and none of them will play my dvd-r's. According to the specs with each player they are all supportive of all dvd formats available.

I convert avi. files using Winavi 7.7 and burn with Nero 6.6.0.13.

I can play my dvd-r's on my RCA dvd player that I have had for 5 years that states in the manual that it ONLY plays dvd not recordable.

Confused.

Any ideas?

Try finalizing the disc. This makes it more compatible with more players.
You convert avi files to what?
My mother can't play any movies I make. A friend has 3 dvd players, my movies play only on 2 of those.

Another trick is to use DVD+R media and set the booktype field to DVD-ROM, you'll have an increased chance of reading the disk on those players. I know Nero, and I presume many other burning applications can set the booktype field. Note that the drive also needs the ability to set the field.
