I don't know if this should be here or in Hardware but I'm having a problem with my DVD player and card readers on my Dell XPS 400 system not working in Windows XP Media Center Edition. Here's what I've tried to far to fix the DVD drive.

Right now I'm focused on the DVD drive. It shows up under My Computer as usual except that it won't read any CDs inserted. Drive has power but doesn't seem to try to read the disc.

1. Update Drive- No updated driver available
2. Remove the drive in Device Manager & Reboot- Drive detected at reboot and installed properly but same condition
3. Delete upper and lower filters in registry & reboot- Same condition after reboot
4. Ran virus scan w/no infections found
5. Ran hijack this and analyzed log and found nothing deemed unsafe

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

JT Cole, have you tried a different ide cable?
have you tried putting it in another PC?
have you tried putting a different dvd drive in your PC?
Remove and reinsert the ide cables make sure seated firmly in place,
switch the cables from master to slave to see what happens.
