I bought a computer mag that came with a free DVD documentary. On the front cover it says it is compatible with PC's and DVD players. Does this mean if I was to buy a movie DVD in the shops I would only be able to play this in a DVD machine and not on a DVD Rom on my computer?

Hi cubbycuddly,

No, that is not the case. There are some DVD formats that will not be read by stand-alone DVD players, such as the ones that software vendors have done, for example MS Encarta on DVD, but all DVDs can be played on your PC DVD. The only limitation will be region codes, but that is standard for all players.

Hi RandyG

You mentioned about region codes, am I right in thinking though that some DVD's , that I have seen, state no regional coding means that wherever in the world you live the DVD will play?
