DVD burning on a CD Writer

890 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  kitmac
Hello!

I have received a few emails in Hotmail advertising software that allows one to burn DVD's & Play Station discs onto a CD with a regular CD burner. It also allows one to copy VHS to DVD too in the same way.

It sounds too good to be true - is it a scam to send off $39.95 & never to see it again or is there really a program that allows all this to be done?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Best wishes.

Hi Tim,

It is possible to burn a DVD or any console game to a standard CD-R.

Just like you can 'rip' a track from an audio CD and convert it to MP3 format, you can also rip the signal from a DVD and convert it to DivX format which is a compression algorithm that compresses the ripped file to a size small enough to fit on a CD-R. The (FREE) software for ripping, editing and playback is available from www.divx.com.

As regards console games, you can simply make an image file (.iso, .nrg) of any disk using standard CD-writing software like EZCD Creator or Nero Burning ROM (a free copy of which is packaged with most CD-Writer drives).

Like anything, it takes practice to get it right but as I said the software to do it is completely free.

I have received several similar emails and it is possible the software does what it says. But it is unlikely to be any better at the job than that already available for free.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards
Kit
