i am a bit of a novice when it comes to computers, i have a dell dimension 4600 with windows xp, it has a dvd/cd-r combo drive. now i want to install a dvd-r drive so i can write dvds. i would prefer to have an internal one but its not a must, any help would be great. how difficult are they to install etc

Pretty easy to install; I like to put the dvd burner on ide2 as the master device. Install your cdr drive as the slave device.

I use LiteOn drives; never had a problem with one yet. The last burner I installed was a LiteOn 8X and I think the price was $117 from newegg.com.

One other thing; I really dislike the burning software that comes with most dvd burners. If possible get Nero; it does a great job. If you already have Nero with your old cdr drive [and it is version 5.5 or later] it should burn dvds without a problem.
