I have a nvidia fx5500 video card. When i connect a converter to convert the dvi port to a vga port the monitor that is attached is tinted green. I have no clue what to do. this is the second adapter(dvi to vga) that i have tried and both have had the same result. PLEASE somebody help me.

You do not have the adapter all the way plugged in correctly or you have a bad adapter.

Hello: thanks for the quick reply. I have taken out the video card and re secured all the connections along with those leading to and from the monitor. The result is still a green tinted screen. This is the second adapter i have bought. do you really think that the converter itself could be bad on both. seems like the odds would be low. the only software thing i can think of would be that my multimedia controller and multimedia video controller dont have the drivers installed. i think those are for my tv card though, i have not set that up yet. any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The DVI to VGA adapter simply allows connection to the analog outputs on the DVI-I card socket. DVI-I has both Analog and DVI available, DVI-D has no analog

I would predict that no display would be seen if the card only had DVI-D connectors, but you need to read the specs of your graphics card and make sure the outputs are DVI-I

I'm almost 100% positive that the nVidia 5500 would be DVI-I outputs. I'd try the converter on another machine, perhaps a loose connection inside. It's just some wires to the proper pins, not exactly the most complicated device on the planet.

Have you swapped monitors to see if it's the signal coming to the monitor or the monitor ?
Or:
The Nvidia dual monitor display software comes with an option to change output from monitor 1 to 2 and monitor 2 to 1. If you do this do you still get the green tint on monitor 2, the converted output ? That should tell you whether this is hardware related or something to do with the software settings.

It does have the dvi-i connection. I tried the switching the display from 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 but its always the monitor that is attached to the dvi that is green. i tried both of my monitors with the converted port but they both have the same problem when plugged in there. could it be that the video card has went bad, or at least the dvi portion? i have had this video card since 07/05. any other suggestions would be appreciated!!!

It does tend to suggest that the card itself is involved.
