My mobo is an Asus A7N8XE-Deluxe, which has 3 memory slots. I currently have 2x512MB memory plugged in but I want to add an extra GB since I just installed Vista. Now, here is the hard part.

There are 2 blue memory slots and 1 black memory slot. All DDR. I currently have the 2x512MBs in the 2 blue memory slots. If I wanted to retain the Dual Channel, would I have to buy a 1GB Chip to stick in the black slot?

This has always confused me with this board. Thanks!

If you put a 1g ram in the black slot you will lose the dual ram but I doubt you would notice the difference.
If you want to retain dual channel you will need to buy two 1g of ram/
