DST embroidery design help

Hi there,
I have been digitizing for the past two years using my Janome software and designing for my Memory 300 embroidery machine. I recently took the plunge and bought a used commercial SWF machine. My old machine takes JEF files and this new one uses Tajima DST files. Here is where i am confused...I have designed items in my janome software for dst but they look like crap on the new machine. What digitizing software is best for creating DST files and ensuring that they look the same on the software as they do on the machine? I am willing to buy software, so don't need it to be free. Just wondering if there is a software out there that will let me digitize dst files and have it look right when I upload them to my machine. Thank you.

You might want to look at the freeware SophieSew
This site also has video tutorials.
I'd hope that the new version he's working on, will also be freeware.

I can convert jef to dst using BuzzXplore (V1) if you want to see how the conversions look.
But the Thread colors may not convert correctly.

I can download dst files of designs I have bought, and my software will convert it, it just doesn't look right at all. I will try the buzz edit, I downloaded a free trial. Do you just convert it to dst and it will save with the right color files?

Sorry I am new this file format, I've been designing Jef files for 2 years now, so kinda frustrated that all my designs are not working. Thanks so much for your help :)

Yes & But the thread color codes change.
I don't know how the dst files will sew.
Not sure what BuzzEdit does ???

I can batch convert a whole bunch (folder full) .. If you need

DST files have no color information so it uses default colors in various shades of blue, green, and so on. To work with DST files, you will need to print a color chart (or production worksheet) from your digitizing software and have that handy when you load thread on the machine.

You would assign needles and load the colors according to the color chart you have at hand. You JEF software should be able to "export" or "save as" DST format so the true color orders are the same as your printed cheat sheet.

If your stitchouts don't look as good with the SWF as with your Janome, it's probaly the "new" machine needing some maintenance. DST or JEF should look the same when stitched.

If pixiefashons was using Janome's supplied software .. it only outputs jef (Janome's format)

I'll take your word on that one, Jay. Good place to use Wilcom's Truesizer to convert JEF to DST.

So Customizer doesn't have an Export option, just save as?

Right .... Same as the older Easy Import.
Available Freeware for Janome products only.
The embroidery industry is worse than the RIAA

I'm curious if pixiefashions was auto-digitizing in Janome's freeware ????

Thanks everyone. So I guess basically there is NO way to just bring up a dst file and have it look right on the machine. I have a file that has 5 colors but when it is converted to a dst file and uploaded to the machine it comes in as 10 colors and weird colors at that. So I guess i have to learn how to assign all the colors on the machine. Was just hoping for an easier and less time consuming process.

Oh for the question on my digitizing, nope I am using Janome Pro which cost a bunch of money, hence I was hoping for an easy way to convert files without having to pay for more software.

Yep, weird colors is a good description. A DST file will show a different default color for every color change. That's why you need have the color chart available - you'll need to assign each DST color change to a needle and make sure that color is loaded in that position.

I have a Brother 6 needle that tells ME where to laod each color but PES format is the only one that does keep color info as far as I know. Several of my customers use DST only and run large operations so I think it is a matter of getting used to using DST's and becoming familiar with needle assignments. I test in PES but send them DST, JEF, EXP, whatever they need and, of course, a production worksheet with the color chart on it.

Yeah. I know what colors should be what, only the issue is it is coming in grey on the screen and I can't clearly see how to assign a color when I can't tell what I am looking at. I am sure it will just be getting used to it, or maybe I have a setting wrong. Thanks so all the help.
