Download problem...

683 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  steamwiz
Hi All

Can anyone explain to me why I might be experiencing this error when I try to download files ...

When the download starts, this is the result... I have not had this problem before and I now get it when trying to get some freeware for my iPAQ from something like this link...

PocketGear for iPAQ

Any ideas?

Hi John

It appears you have the latest Xupiter

Spybot should eliminate this for you

Please Download and install SpyBot,

http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

If you have any further problems let us know

Hi steamwiz

Thanks - that worked a treat, much appreciated.

Incidentally, how would I have got Xupiter on my machine in the first place? Does this mean someone has been somewhere they shouldn't have been on my PC???

John
How long have you had this problem, and are you actually using Windows XP, If you are then restore back a day beyond the problem date and it will save you a ton work. IE is part of XP
Hi John, you're welcome

It usually comes comes included in a free program which you download

Installed by ActiveX drive-by-download in affiliate pages. Known sources include the site www.freewebupgrades.com (which is advertised by junk e-mail) and pop-up adverts on sites such as FortuneCity.

More recently also bundled with Grokster.

One of Xupiter/Sqwire's ActiveX drive-by-download pages has been advertised by junk e-mail (spam) offering a 'Free Christian Toolbar'.
