Hi...Just curious...is it safe to disable the floppy drive?...I really no longer have any need for a floppy drive and after all it shaves a second or two off boot-up and shutdown times.

I am using Windows XP.

off course answer:

floppies are extinct!!!! i threw away my floppy drive from my old computer, and didnt buy one for my new one!

Although floppy drives are almost extinct they still have their uses.

For example its still easier to use a floppy disk to move info say from home to work, than it is to use a cd (which you can only reburn once or twice) or a usb drive (which can be a pain if you have to reach round the back of the comp to use it.)
Also they are still useful for boot disks.

Yeah floppy drives are being used less and less, but dont count them out yet.
