Running ME. Not a serious problem as far as I know, but I can't place any images as my wallpaper. Set as wallpaper option does nothing, and the display properties window has all but the pattern selector disabled (greyed out) on the background tab. Any thoughts, other than re-install the OS?

Howdy,

Do you mean set as background and how are you trying to do it?

Right click an empty place on the desktop and choose Properties the in the new window click the Desktop tab

Then click Customize Desktop then click the Web tab and uncheck everything. Click OK and then try.

A couple of pictures so that you can see what I am trying to explain. And the set as background thing I was referring to was:
1. Right-click an image in Internet Explorer
2. Select "Set as Background"

The screen flashes when I do this, like it changed the image, but nothing actually changes.

Try moving your Pictures from your My Pictures folder to somewhere else and renaming it.

All that did was remove the options on the list for background images. Now the list is empty, except for the 'none' background option, and still disabled.

Right click on a picture choose properties and then Change button and choose Windows Picture and the program to open it click Apply and OK

I had the same problem and after a lot of google I found the solution.

1) Click on Start, Run
2) Type REGEDIT and Press Enter
3) Click the plus signs(+) next to the following sections of the registry

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER
• Software
• Microsoft
• Windows
• CurrentVersion
• Policies
• System

4) Look for the WALLPAPER key on the right hand side
5) Right-click and Delete this entry
6) Close the Registry Editor
