Perhaps if you a) posted what "something" you need to do with Direct X and b) what fix did you attempt someone could offer help.

From your screenshot, it appears you are running Windows 10. I found this:
...The issue is that DirectX 9 is considered a 'legacy component'. DirectX 11 is the newest
and the latest that is already pre-installed on Windows 10. You should understand that there are two versions of Windows 10, one being the X86 (32-Bit) version which can handle the 16-bit applications, which is what DirectX 9 is. The other version is the X64.
Unfortunately, the X64 version of Windows 10 does not have the capability to handle the 16-bit applications.
If your Windows 10 is 64 bit, then you can not install DirectX 9.
But if i cannot install directx 9 how can i install epic games launcher prerequisites update. Last fixes that i seen requied DirectX 9 to fix the problem and yes my win 10 is 64 bit
So there is no fix for this thing?

Hi Liz and PANDANASHI, with Win 10 64 bit, I've found that you can install DX9 if it's included in the course of a re-install of some games...just allow it during the setup.
In my case it messed up my desktop icons, system fonts - kind of a hassle - but allowed me to play the older games.
The scenario being older Tomb Raider and Hitman games from the PC disk, not the likes of online venues such as Steam, etc.

But I had to "go back" and reinstall to DX 11 for more modern applications.

Can u explain it simplier i am not kinda a tech guy or smth
This is as simple as it gets

You are running a 64 bit version of Windows 10. You can not install Direct X 9 so your game launcher will remain broken.
I think it would help if you let us know which game you're trying to install. I also think @RT's post is a cautionary tale for you, since DX9 may well introduce even more problems to your system.

Dammit

So the only fix would be to Reinstall Windows agian?
Where did you get the Epic Games Launcher from? I'm running it on a 64-bit Windows 10 Pro machine without issue. Try downloading it from here.

No, because you'd be reinstalling the 64-bit version of Windows 10 again and, as Liz and RT have pointed out, DX9 won't work properly with that.

In order to understand better what we are dealing with here, please download and run the TSG System Information Utility on the affected PC, and then post the results back to this thread.
Colin is your Windows 10 an update from an earlier version of Windows? If so, it might have DirectX9 on it. That's the only thing I can figure out why it works on your computer despite the fact that it says it needs DirectX9 which can not be installed on a 64 bit version of Windows 10.
Liz, no, I purchased this machine with Win 10 Pro pre-installed.
Thanks. That blows my theory. No explanation as to why yours works and the OP can't get his to work.
You're welcome, Liz. Since they haven't answered me, I can only guess they're trying to install some really old version of the program instead of, as I suggested, going to the Epic site and downloading the latest iteration from there.

Well I popped the disk in to install TR3 anew, and during the install accepted the DX9 install requirement, and that's what messed up my computer, user interface-wise, except for the fact I actually could play the game(s)...
Note I was installing from a purchased DVD or CD disk not a download.

To be clear i did have to use a downloaded patch as well....
yeah, that confuses things...
I also think @RT's post is a cautionary tale for you, since DX9 may well introduce even more problems to your system.
I agree with Colin there, for me it wasn't worth the trouble it caused.
It was only fun for an hour or two ;)

And that's why I keep older computers around (off the internet) - to play the old games that work on them.
