I have a DLink DI-604 router, and it works smoothly. Now it has this feature that automatically emails the logs to me, and I would like to get that working. The problem is that it requires a smtp server. At first I was like okay, gmail smtp server. But I realized that this router does *EDIT: NOT" have the ability to log into a server...

do you know of any smtp servers that do not require a username and password?

(I am not going to host one myself, becuase I usually don't leave my computer on when I am not using it)

No, and nobody in their right mind should allow that. That's known as an open mail relay.

Check with your ISP. Most ISP's have an outgoing SMTP server.

Realized that I made a typo....I cant log into the smtp server.

Hmm......I just looked up open mail relay, and I see that it is rather frowned upon. Is there another way to get around this? I will post a screenshot

Yep, Dlink didn't include RFC2822 support so it doesn't even process SMTP normally. Many Dshield forums gripe about this.

Most devices use Syslog format. It's quite odd that Dlink decided to do this. From what I understand, the latest firmware does nothing to resolve the issue.

I'm afraid you'll most likely be stuck with installing IIS5 for an SMTP server, or MS Personal Webserver [don't know if that includes SMTP].

If you do decide to do that, might I suggest that you install a Dshield log parser and contribute your logs to the SANS Internet Storm Center? They're in constant need of logs from Broadband users throughout the world.

I'm proboly not going to host an smtp server, since my computer is usually off. I guess I won't be able to check logs from my e-mail :( .

**The lastest firmware does nothing (I updated it yesterday),
