Hi I've recently been experiencing a problem that when left idle for a while my PC starts running dfrgntfs.exe and uses all my processor (100%)

Thinking I needed to defrag my drive I did so (both) but the problem remains.

I cannot kill this process or find what is starting it. My drives are not fragmented and virus scans reveal nothing. When the program runs I don't see any drive activity at all.

I'm running XP pro on a PIV 1.8Ghz with 512Mb.

Does anyone know what this program is doing or how to stop it from running?

Thanks

Peter

the running process is the defrag utility

Right-click My Computer and click Manage. If you have Diskeeper in the left pane of the Computer Management window then you have Diskeeper installed. Diskeeper is a software from Executive Software and not Microsoft. Microsoft's Disk Defragmenter for 2000/XP is a lite version of Diskeeper. Dfrgntfs.exe is a process of the Set It and Forget It feature of Diskeeper which is a scheduled defragmenter that you can set priority on.
