Destination Port Unreachable

463 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  zx10guy
Hi all,

I have recently set up a new NVR in the office. Everything was fine up until a few days ago. I was not able to access the NVR Web UI nor was i able to ping it. The response is always destination port unreachable.

I tried the following

1. the nvr is located at another part of the compound so a media converter is used for connectivity there. I swapped the patch cords (they were old)
2. I thought maybe there was an IP Conflict so i changed the IP to static, SADP is finding the new ip (it was also finding the old one) but i still cannot connect to it or ping it (same response)

I am unsure how to proceed as this is a problem I never came across before.

Looking forward to your response.

Is there a firewall somewhere that drops ICMP ?

I am unsure, i started digging up in the router today. What should i look out for?
To cut to the chase, plug your laptop with an Ethernet port with a patch cable directly into the NVR. Disable your wireless NIC in the OS. Statically, set the IP address of the Ethernet port of the laptop to the same subnet as what you think the NVR is configured. Now attempt to do a ping test on the IP addresses you think the NVR is configured for. This eliminates everything in the network path and goes straight to the NVR to determine if the NVR is actually talking on the network.
