I can't reset the desktop settings...it won't let me change the color from 16 or screen setting to make smaller - I have GeForce2 and checked and it is all up to date...any ideas???

have you tried installing drivers for the GeForce2 ?

no but I am wondering if there is a problem with my settings - the color profile box is empty and the default monitor profile says "none" (desktop/settings/properties/advanced...)is that the way it should be???

how did this happen. I hope that you have tried to install the video card drivers that came with the CD of the video card. Have recently formatted the hard drive ? what is your windows ?. Can you give some more information including the problem history

sorry, I am a neebie and hired a computer person to help because my computer was freezing....God only knows what happened after that! I have a feeling I am going to have to hire a different person to undo what they did - ouch...The internet also has all this pattern behind all the writting which makes it very difficult to read - that's new too...

what version of windows you have ? 98/me/xp ?

In the desktop right click my computer > properties >Device manager [tab]. Under video card click the plus sign to see what it contains.

well that sounds easy enough...but when I got to the device manager tab and looked I couldn't find a video card (Iwas viewing by type)...I need a drink!!!

how else can I locate it - could she have "unchecked it" when she was elimiating things????

Go to control panel > add new hardware >
follow the screen
and let addnew hardware wizard lookup for new hardware.

I know you're having what looks like insurmountable problems, but when other people fidddle with your machine you're exposing yourself to havoc.
I've learned an incredible amount on this board, and you can too; and in the long run you won't have to depend on anyone else to straighten out your problems with the puter. Just a word of encouragement.
