Dell Inspiron 1440 wont boot

I have a 13 years old Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop which was out of use for about a year but all the peripherals are in good condition. So I thought I could use it for something. But I changed the HDD it already had to another one I had with me as an external HDD for sometime. I completely deleted all the partitions in that HDD and formatted it so it would be clear.
I connected it to the lap and when i tried to install windows using USB, Nothing would happen and only black screen with a cursor on the upper left corner appears. What should I do?

To create a USB windows setup stick, you download the MS Media Creation Tool for Win10 or Win11. Then you run it to Generate a USB memory stick. ( The USB stick must be 8 Gigs or larger ) Then you insert the USB stick into the PC and make the BIOS boot with it.
I did the exact same thing. Thank you for answering!
Maybe the laptop is too old and does not take Bootable USB's. You will need to use Media Creation Tool to Generate an ISO and right click choose Burn disc image onto a DVD.
No the windows sign comes up suddenly and it goes to the terminal thing.
And when i turn on without the bootable USB, it should show no OS found right?
But it doesnt show up and goes straight to the empty terminal.
And it makes a beep sound on keypress after about 10 seconds in the terminal. Thank you for your time!
It all depends on how much space your HDD has. Some older computers don't accept HDD larger than 1 or 2 TB.
what version of Windows was it previously running ?

you said that with the USB stick plugged in, it showed the Windows logo and then a terminal screen. does that terminal screen have windows borders like an ordinary app does or was it just a black screen with a cursor on the top?
With the usb installed
Start the computer and start tapping F12 straight away.
This should give you a boot menu.
Is the usb listed? If yes choose usb and boot.
If no usb and only cd/dvd listed try to enter bios
Usb in, boot starting tapping F2 key do you get bios
if yes go to boot menu
set usb as first boot.
F10 save and exit

It ran windows 10 and windows 7 before. I was trying to install windows 10.
And it was just a total black screen with just an underscore on the top left corner.

I tried both and nothing happened.
The 500GB drive is inside the laptop ?
Did you see the Usb installer you made in the Boot Menu (F12) and/or in the Bios ?
Do you see anything on the screen before the flashing cursor ?
I tried both and nothing happened.
When you pressed F12 immediately after power on, did the BIOS show up?
Seems that your laptop might had Windows XP before and had the 32 bit version. You may want to try downloading and installing Windows 10, 32 bit version to see if you may have better luck.
Start straight away - I mean straight away start tapping F2 like mad
Not hard just fast
Forgot to mention on post #17. Make sure you have at least 8 GB of RAM or less.
i currently have 2 gb ddr2. And the BIOS did show up. It had windows 7 x64 originally. Thank u all for replying!
