Dell G3 3579 charging issue

3356 Views 12 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Amttrak
My G3 3579 has recently developed a charging issue, in that it flickers from not detecting a charger, to “plugged in, not charging”.

I’ve tried changing the charging settings etc., diagnostics show no issues, same problem with new battery new charger and new power jack, but nothing works, can someone help me?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Looking online this seems to be quite a common problem with that model.

A possible solution is to set the battery charging mode to 'Standard' in the Bios, OR you can set it in Windows using the Dell power application then unplug the charger and shutdown the laptop then restart it and plug the charger back in when it gets to the Windows desktop.

Hi, and thank you
The problem is that the battery has no charge in it, the notebook works fine whitout the battery but when i put the battery something goes wrong and it will not recognise the charger and goes off because the battery is at 0% even whit a new original charger and jack and battery, the status in bios is idle at the battery and at the charger is flickering with unknown and 130w but no charge the status of battery is excellent because the laptop have 7 months old but same with the new battery, i have tried a lot of things from internet but with no result, i think is something wrong with the moterboard but im not an expert and i dont know were to look, i have some experience with the circuits but here i dont know were to look
Did you try to change the charging mode to 'standard' in the Bios or using the Dell power application in Windows ?

Please post the Service Tag, should be on a label underneath the laptop.
Yes i did but no result
I think 99% is the charging circuit
im searching someting on internet do see were it is or what can be broken but cant find anyting andi see are alot of guyes with the same prob but no fix
This happens with the battery on, but when i take it out works normaly,
Found it on youtube and i have the same prob
Sorry for my bad english🙂

According to this, it is still under warranty (though it seems like a very long warranty period!). I'd be talking to Dell.

You're English is fine.

This is for your particular laptop ;- https://www.dell.com/support/home/u...0-SGNsWDkvY1RrZWR6Rmp0ZlhXcitDZz090/overview#

I think Gr3iz was correct (in the chat) and the motherboard has a problem somewhere in the charging circuit.
I doubt you will find a circuit diagram/schematic anywhere though. Dell do have a Service Manual at the above link but it only shows how to replace main parts not how to repair at the component level.

EDIT : I noticed that 2027 warranty too Mark. Too good to be true ?
I've never heard of any computer'swarranty longer than 4 years, and you'd pay a lot extra for that! Dell's standard is (I believe) one year. Even WD's Black lable HDD is "only" warranted for 5 years!
I already talk with dell and the warranty is with a reseller not with dell, they cant help me
Any way after i gived them the s/n and told me the warranty is not with them but with a reseller they stop answering me😂😂😂
And whay is until 2027 i dont know because it not was new when i bought this dell
