Hi,

I am working on a word document created a few days ago, When I insert a new paragraph of text, and try to delete any of it, it doesnt always delete from where the curser is, sometimes it deletes from the start of the line, sometimes the end, sometimes the middle.

Why wont it delete from either side of the curser when I use the del & backspace keys?

Thanks for any help

You might have a problem with the normal.dot template. Open up your document, and select ALL of the text in it, and hit CTRL-C to copy it. Then close Word and do a search for Normal.Dot, and delete any files that are found. Open Word again (not your file, just Word), and then paste the text you previously copied (CTRL-V to paste). Word will have automatically recreated the Normal.Dot template for you.

Save the file as a different file name, and try the DEL and BACKSPACE again.

Does it depend on which line you are on? ie - on line 1, does it only delete to the left of the cursor, but line 2 deletes to the right of the cursor; or does it delete left sometimes, and in the same spot in the document delete right occasionally?

It can be on any line of the inserted text.
If I use del to remove text on the right, sometimes it may del a few characters on the right, then start deleting characters a few words to the left.

It only deletes on the same line as the cursor.

????????????

Does this also happen in Notepad?

EDIT: I just re-read gurutech's post, and that advice will not re-create the normal.dot template. You have to actually delete the file named "normal.dot". It's a hidden file, so you'll need to show all files and folders. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Templates. Replace <username> with your actual user name. Delete the file normal.dot. Make sure Word is closed first. Then when you open Word again, the file will be re-created.

No it doesnt happen in notepad.

I knew the file was hidden when I followed gurutech's post.
I deleted 3 files, 1 for each user of the pc.
That didnt solve the prob.
