I have mistakenly deleted all the files and folders included in my "Temorary Internet Files" folder, including "Content.IE5" and "OLKD7" folders. I am now unable to download attachments from Hotmail. I have tried to add these folders from another user on this machine however the folder is restricted. My OS is XP Prof. SP2 & IE 6. Any ideas?
Thanks

Several times & no joy, Hotmail Help believe it may be a corrupted cookie, can't see that myself as I have deleted them all. The only way I can download attachments at present is to open Hotmail through a different browser (Mozilla). There must be something wrong with IE after deleting the contents of the "Temporary Internet Files" folder.

Index.dat files probably are the cause. If you want to find out more about them, use the search button here at TSG.

Go here, read about IE Privacy Keeper and download. Freeware. It will empty out your index.dat files and clear out cookie data. And more.

There is nothing inherently wrong with deleting the folders/files that you listed. However, if you are keeping cookies to access certain sites, then you have to make sure those cookies are still present. IE Privacy Keeper allows you to do that while safely cleaning your computer of junk.

Another popular, similar freeware is Ccleaner. I have both and am leaning toward Privacy Keeper as my preference.
