Hello angel in Canada!

As soon as I heard "gator" I heard warning bells go off. Gator is a very common spyware and shouldn't be in anybody's computer.

Let's start with this: download HijackThis onto the computer. Run it and generate a log. Without trying to fix anything just yet, post the log here for examination.

Also, if you want to run scan disk without any interuptions, AND get the really helpful surface scan, insert your Win98 startup disk (the disk, not the cd) (if you don't have one, just go to "Add/Remove Programs" and click on the startup disk option). After you insert the disk, restart the computer. Select the option "start computer with cd-rom support" and wait while it does it's thing.

When the command prompt comes up, type this in "c:" and press enter. After that, type this in "scandisk c:" and press enter. You might have to put a space between scan and disk, but I don't remember.

After you do that, let scan disk run it's course (could take at least a couple of hours. My hard drive was failing and it took 2 days!)

After that is done, restart the computer (take out the disk first) and see if anything runs better.

Let us know if there is anything else you want help with!

angel24,

This is like putting a band-aid on a gun shot wound, it's a waste of time.
Y'all gotta re-install Windows 98SE. HOWEVER, before you do it, check out my
post to CastleHeart
http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=1547250#post1547250
and then do a search on THAT forum for "Ghost" and you can not only fix her
PB, but make her PB and your XP box easier to deal with in the future.

Good luck,

Ben

Why?

Before such a drastic measure is taken, it is best to run a few simple diagnostics. Re-installing Windows every time theres a glitch in the system is the real waste of time - and overkill.

I would wait on the reinstall also and see if the problem can be corrected by other means. The problem may still exist even if a reinstall is done depending on the culprit

My opinion
