I don't know if my wifes computer has developed a problem or not, when I try to defrag it while showing details it stops at 50% and restarts and every time I restart it it gos 1or 2% further, but if I defrag it without showing details it seems to go right through without restarting, could this be the start of something serious?

You can also download a product called Diskeeper Lite. IT has a free version:

http://www.softlookup.com/display.asp?id=9292

It defrags in about 1/4 the time that Windows defrag does, which means you can defrag more often. The paid version has an automatic scheduler. I've been using it on my Win98 machine for several years now and I'll never go back to Windows defrag.

BTW, if you're using win98, the winME defragger works on Win98 and it defrags in about 1/2 the time.

Run it in safe mode
BTW, to run in Safe Mode you hold down the F8 key while rebooting and select choice 3.

I had a real problem with way too many programs loading at start or re-boot. I have tried selective start-up & unchecking everything but the necesities. This works when I restart & gives me 89 to 90% resources. I can check my mail with no change, the lcose program box is full from top to bottom again. but if I open Internet Explorer & check it at control-alt-delete, the close program will be full will many items on it. This is Windows ME. Thanks for any help. Jim
