i'm curious what the different frequencies mean. does the higher frequency mean better performance, or what? Right now i have 2 gigs of 6400 in my comp but was looking to add more and wasn't sure if i should go with 8500 or just stick tot he 6400.

my mother board supports pc2-5300 pc2-6400 and pc2-8500

Always always always stay with the same type, speed, timings, and manufacturer of RAM.

Mixing and matching causes all kinds of problems.

k that's cool

now what is the difference in ram with different frequencies? is there an advantage to having a higher frequency?
Faster in-out of data.

If you have 2gb of DDR2-6400 RAM running win XP, or 4gb with Vista, you're doing just fine.
