It seems XP (and win2k) takes any .dat file and puts them in the system32 folder.
Our program creates .dat files that should be placed in a certain folder, so when moving to XP we encountered a few problems because of this
Any ideas how to keep XP from forcing .dat files into the system32 directory?

I have .dat files in many folders. How are you placing them onto the PC?

What is the program you refer to and was it written to be compatible with Windows2000 and XP?

I have also not seen that the OS just does this on it's own.
