Creating a VPN

I have two similar networks in two different buildings. Both are comprised of a number of PC’s connect by a Linksys wireless router in each building. Unfortunately the distance between the buildings is too great to cost –effectively run a cable between the two networks, but I would still like to be able to share documents between the two networks. I was wondering if I could create a VPN network or some other type of WAN without purchase of a lot of new equipment. The computers are running a mix of Windows XP Pro & Home and I have two distinct DSL connections for each network with static IP addresses. I would be grateful to find out if I can even make a VPN without having a dedicated server or if there were another type of WAN that would better suite my needs. Once again all I need is file sharing. Thank you for your time.
