I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA8IPE 1000 Motherboard and I already owned a Intel Celeron 1.7 ghz CPU (Model# SL69Z Costa rica )which i I thought I would try and use in the new board. When installed and powered up it starts POST and then nothing. No error message , no error beeps,, no BIOS ,no disply and nothing appears on the monitor at all. THe monitor does respond at first then goes back to sleep . VId card and CPU fan are running and I have triple checked ram ,cables, jumpers everything. The board specs say that it supports P4 and Celeron CPU in this speed range. My question is:

"Are some celeron chips actually classed as P4 Celeron chips and the one I have is not compatible with this motherboard"?.
I hope so otherwise I am stumped.

PS. I CANNOT enter CMOS and board is jumperless(re.Voltage,FSB etc)

All help appreciated

You replaced an existing Mobo I am assuming. Does your existing Power Supply support the extra 4 pronged power feed required for P4 Mobo's? If not you will need to get another power supply.

Did you see the board in operation before you purchased it? There may have been a reason why it was hardly used!

Pulled and reset CPU again and problem solved. Thanks for actually answering my question Ash."

Just needed to be sure I had a compatible chip so I could go through process of elimination. Didn't question the board because of reliable source but if reset had not worked the board would have been next under scrutiny. Gamers change M/B's like boxers here in NZ so I brought it at awesome price but only had a 1.7 ghz CPU to spare and the cpu is only temporary till I can get a few more dollars together for P4 Hyper thread 2.6 ghz @800 fsb this will also make full use of DDR 400 Dual channel RAM . Awesome Board

Cheers for interest

LOL Yeah I know the quest for faster and better. Glad you found it and that it wasn't the MOBO - If you come accross anyone else wanting to get rid of a perfectly good MB - let me know.
