Hey all at TSG

Hoping I can get some help with a few probs I have encountered recently.
I bought a computer from MESH recently and here are the specs.

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Basically I have a Media centre edition OS and an NVIDIA 7300GS graphics card on 93.81 drivers. And here are a couple of screenies from CPU-Z

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3905/cpuz3xw1.jpg

Since I have had the PC i have encountered 2 main problems.

1) Often when I load up my PC, or turn on the display, alt-tab from certain games or during certain games; my display turns off for a moment - then back on - then off for a little bit - then on at varying rates. I have tried different chipset drivers and gfx drivers but all seem to just affect it worse or make it slightly better.

2) During this ONE game I really wanted to play on my PC (every other game seems to work fine apart from the screen on/off thing) the screen freezes and after a while i get the nv4_disp infinite loop bsod. The game is battlefield 2142 and it often happens when im flyin about lol. Anyway.. I did do alot of reading into the whole NV4_disp.dll crash thing and my situation seems dire - the end result of all my reading and investigating seems to say just 'give up'. Alot of the solutions dont work at all and all the others I cant do anyway because my PC just wont let me.

I'm at a wits end - i really feel that I may have to return the pc but I hear that the company are a real pain when it comes to customer service haha. So yeh - any help you guys can give I'd really appreciate it.

Hi ibanezjem
Battlefield 2 is notorious for been a difficult game to get working It also requires a powerfully pc to run at high settings,Most problems are due to video drivers,Re-check your settings and start out with the sliders at 25% and work up until you start getting a problem.
Also quite a few PC are having problems with the latest NVIDIA drivers 93.71 may I sagest you try 91.47 it may help.
Good luck

hey there mate. yeh i understand the issue with battlefield 2 being notorious. Though bf2142 is the problematic game they are very much similar. Thing is though i get the nv4_disp crash error on even the lowest settings. My old pc was no where near this pc in specifications and didnt suffer the crash at all.

I'll try the 91.47 drivers as a remedy to my screen turning on and off though. May work as I have tried multiple combinations of drivers and such. What could you suggest so far as chipset drivers are concerned. SMbus controller version? The screen going on and off is gettin pretty ridiculous lol.

Hi Again.
MESH???? say no more.
As you new pc been Like this from Day one,Things you need to do,Mesh a famous for fitting the wrong PSU you will have to remove it to see what it is rated at but At a guess your setup will require at least 400w Check that the PSU fitted Is what was in your spec when you order it.This could be a PSU issue you have

I note this is an nVidia chipset board that has some issues with top of the line ram and was put out to save money over Intel chipsets, and that very thought isn't a good one. If that is so I would just bet the nvidia software needs to go away, except for the chipset driver, and that may also be suspect.
Go all the way thorough this lengthly article for some clues:

hehe thanks guys. I have noticed quite alot the mere mention of MESH sends people running now a days. The public opinion isn't very supportive of the company I can tell you. Thing is I had the PC bought for me.. I was looking into a cyberpowersystem.co.uk offer I had heard they were quite decent.

Anyhow I digress - thanks for the article I will give it a read now. I'd imagine you are correct in the idea of the psu also.

Rich - by nvidia software go away what do you suggest :p That I remove everything nvidia apart from the nforce chipset driver and nvidia display drivers? :) lol

Will get back to you guys in due time.

A good xmas to all

Yes that is what I would try and I am even tempted to remove chipset driver as well and use native Windows if the problem persists. There was an issue on Nforce4 with an ide hard drive software on the mobo driver cd that was causing all kinds of problems which made me think of it.

gah - same old probs after all this. If there is nothing that is quite simple to do other than purchasing new parts etc - reckon maybe its best if i see about sending the unit back describing that it doesnt perform certain tasks which it says it can?

I hear MESH arent the type to accept things back too easily. :(

Hi again
Mesh produce a pc much cheaper than you can build your self but to do this they have to use inferior parts in the build.but some times they fit buy mistake items that will not run your PC their worst problem that I know personely of is fitting a psu that is not up to the job. From what you say you may have this problem.Mesh makes sure you can not see what PSU is fitted you must remove it to see.
Good luck have a merry christmas and a happy new year

It seems my PSU is fine. Its a 550w according to the label, and all the paperwork with the PC are in accordance too.

I have performed a full driver and cab clean and installed smbus controllers and 91.47 forceware - I have also run with native windows drivers and my performance issue still remains.

I was originally informed (not on this forum though :) ) that my gfx card was probably the problem, and sent the card back to mesh who replaced it with a new one. Well, the problems persist. My monitor powers off and on annoyingly almost everytime i return to my pc gah!

I researched a little more today only to find out that my gfx card is kinda poop anyway - iv never been too up on nvidia cards as I have always been a radeon kinda guy. Anyway I'd like to ask a few questions...

1) Would simply changing my card to a 7600gt or higher model solve my problems regarding the nv4_disp.dll crash - I have read on the nv4disp forum that it has solved it for a lot of people.

2) Since you mentioned about my chipset not liking my RAM too much could it be possible my RAM is faulty at all?

3) Any ideas why when I install the platform drivers 7.15 nforce international on my pc it still says sm bus controller is not installed. Yet when I install 8.22 nforce international drivers (which i dont know where i got them from lol) - I can't seem to find anything more recent than 7.15

4) Which drivers to I download for my MCE OS. Windows xp /2000? Reason I ask is for some drivers and programs there is the option for media center, yet with others i have only xp/2000 or xp x64 to chose from.

Reason I am asking this too, is I did a 3Dmark06 test on my pc - which also led me to notice how poo my gfx card is - and discovered that my CPU performs reasonably well compared to the other 2 pcs in my house, yet they outperform me with their older gfx cards. I think i was too quick with diving into this pc and unintentionally got the worst of the gfx cards without reading too much into it. I assumed it would be great. I'd be grateful if you could make sense of this excel report I have attached and see if I'm talking nonsense or not. I drivel on and on I must admit

I have also highlighted 3 rows in the document which come up with 'zero' value whereas on the other 2 pcs they both have values in the hundreds. Not sure what it means for me at all. Appreciate the time and help:up:

Hi again.
Sorry to hear you still got a problem.I would wait until Rich gets back to you before you do anything.seen mess are been like that at the moment tell them that the GPU is not up to the spec all your other components are and is holding your PC back they may change your GPU for the difference in price. But follow the rest through when Rich gets back to you.
Good luck and a happy new year.

Haha yeh sounds like a plan. Have been in contact with Mesh - just to get my foot in the door really but they aren't proving to be too much of a pain at all. I have requested some time to decide what to do (which i will likely spend waiting for rich to get back) - but the replacement card and settling the difference sounds swanky.

Cheers for getting back to me though - I'll stick around. ;)

7600 card is a better card and it couldn't hurt but I don't see how this will solve issue. If any controllers are not being recognized that could be the issue.
I mean to uninstall all Nvidia software from Add/Remove Programs except video driver....
Do you have older driver for video card on cd by chance?

nope. got no old nvidia cds. first nvid card iv ever had hehe. When I uninstall all drivers apart from display drivers I keep getting asked to install smbus controllers. Is there a way of stopping it asking me that and using windows drivers instead?

It leaves me with a yellow question marked "sm bus controller" in device manager.

*edit* I do however have an older driver from the cd that they provided me with when they initially replaced my gfx card
