Converter Box Trouble...

939 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Drabdr
Posting this for a friend:

She uses an Insignia converter box with her TV.

Occasionally, it will go out: Date will go from the current date and time to Sunday Januayr 6, 1980, 12:00 a.m. and will not show any programming or programming information.

When she selects a channel, it reads “No Signal.”

This can last anywhere from a few hours to as many as about 72 hours. And then just as randomly, it will come back on with the correct date and all programming.

All connections, wires, etc. are plugged in correctly. She's in a big metropolitan area, Los Angeles, so I would presume signal strength is not an issue.

Any ideas what might be causing this and how she can correct it?

Thanks for any help, insight, complaints I'm posting this to the wrong forum, etc., in advance.

Hello Owen! Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forum.

In reading up on this, there are several issues related to losing signals/ losing programmed channel reception due to poor signal strength.

Is she sure that the signal strength is strong? That can be tested by pressing "signal" on the remote control.
That's a good place to start — I'll ask her. This is difficult because the friend is a shut-in and I'm doing this remotely by the phone: Getting info from her and trying to figure out the problem without even having seen this converter box.
Owen, I think it's great you're trying to help.

Maybe just ask one thing at a time and see how it goes. Start with signal strength.
