Hello,
This is a hjtlog from my daughters pc. She has been experiencing continuious pop ups when surfing the net and also when not. I done a scan with ntl netguard and spysweeper and although spysweeper found some adware (lopdotcom) the pop ups persist so i must hand it over to the experts. Thanks a million to anyone who has a look for me and tries to help in any way. Max.

This is also a new one I have never seen before & might or might not be causing problems
I would like to examine it

Download suspicious file packer from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/tools/index.html

Unzip it to desktop, open it & paste in the list of files below, press next & it will create an archive (zip/cab file) on desktop

please upload that to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=1.0 so we can examine the files

Just press new topic, fill in the needed details and just give a link to your post here & then press the browse button and then navigate to & select the files on your computer, When the file is listed in the windows press send to upload the file

slide is an image sharing uploader from
http://www.slide.com/

It doesn't look like it causes pop ups at fiorst glance so lets look a bit deeper at your computer

  • Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click " Configure Scan Options"
  • Select " Run Add ONs" and then select ALL the options in the box below it, Press Apply
  • Now Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
    • Reboot back to Normal Mode!
    • Go to the WinPFind folder
    • Locate WinPFind.txt
    • Place those results in the next post!. It will be too big to post so you will need to attach it to your reply

Still got LOP showing in the last HJT log

Please Download NoLop! to your desktop.
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it
  • Then click the button labelled "Search and Destroy" <>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop if not, double click the program again and it will finish
  • Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

--If you receive the error, that mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered, please download this file to your system32 folder then rerun the program: http://www.boletrice.com/downloads/mscomctl.ocx --

BTW after i rebooted after doing the lop scan i got another popup straight away. Don't know if this means it's still there or not as i hadn't ran lop again as instructed.
EDIT: It's still doing it.

must be a new version that isn't in the lists yet

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the quote box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Folders to delete:
C:\DOCUME~1\SOPHEN~1\APPLIC~1\VGATRU~1
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\uploadbaitcornfor

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger's actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

when it reboots

Run hijackthis, put a tick in the box beside these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [corn for media flaw] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\uploadbaitcornfor\thiscomp.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Option Comp] C:\DOCUME~1\SOPHEN~1\APPLIC~1\VGATRU~1\Store Style.exe
O4 - Global Startup: NoLop.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)
then

please go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=1.0 and upload these files so I can examine them and distribute them to antivirus companies.
Just press new topic, fill in the needed details and just give a link to your post here & then press the browse button and then navigate to & select the files on your computer, If there is more than 1 file then press the more attachments button for each extra file and browse and select etc and then when all the files are listed in the windows press send to upload the files ( do not post HJT logs there as they will not get dealt with)

Files to submit:

C:\avenger\backup.zip

have the problems stopped now

if so

Turn off system restore by following instructions here
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=8
That will purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Then reboot & then re-enable sytem restore & create a new restore point.

go here http://forums.techguy.org/t208517/s.html for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.
and scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer

Then pay an urgent visit to windows update & make sure you are fully updated & get the bunch of new updates that are alleged to plug the security holes that let these pests on in the first place

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.[/li
