Constant Outlook 365 crashes driving me crazy

Hi collective brain

I've been suffering this issue for some time and just putting up with it but it's becoming unbearable.

I run Office 365 and suffering continuous crashes and force closes with Outlook. It appears possibly to be associated with Outlook accessing a specific email account which is a Sky email address (operated by Yahoo mail). Potentially related, Outlook often fails to access the account requesting the password despite it being correct and saved by Outlook. My suspicion is that the inability to access is as a result of the crashes not the cause because that self resolves sometime after logging in via the web portal (and completing an online captcha) but the crashes remain and eventually the cycle of login failures repeats.

I have 5 email accounts set up in Outlook, 1 work one, a gmail account and 3 Sky/Yahoo accounts. Only 1 of the Sky/Yahoo accounts suffers failures. All accounts are IMAP except the work one which is Office 365.

Things which trigger crashes seem to be:
  • Running send/receive on all folders (frequently)
  • Attaching documents to emails in my work account (frequently)
  • Accessing email whilst connected to my work VPN (often)
  • Opening emails (rather than using the preview pane (occasionally)
I have tried reinstalling and repairing Office 365, creating a new Outlook profile, removing the offending Sky/Yahoo account, repairing my pst files, deleting ost files.

Nothing has had any sustained effect and the issue seems to be getting worse such that Outlook crashes every time I use it and often crashes multiple times in a row, simply restarting.

Can anyone help me get to the bottom of this? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

I have a bunch of deparmental email accounts, and only one of them gives me issues not too similar to yours... mine is more that there is a lag between opening up emails/selecting emails / going to a different mailbox... but then when I go to a different mailbox it's fine.

Is the O365 account a large account (i.e. lots of calendar information, emails not deleted, etc)?
What do you men by "All accounts are IMAP except the work one which is Office 365."

There is IMAP and POP, I have heard of a Office 365 account?
What is the domain name of this Office 365 account?

to my knowledge, Office365 is hosted at Microsoft.

Office 365 is the subscription version of OFFICE.
Yes, I do have Office 365 and there is NO Office 365 email account.

There is a Microsoft Account, that is linked to any email address and it is used by Office 365 to access the different subscriptions.

I have found nothing on using a office 375 email address, can you provide a sample of such a address and a link in getting one?

Well, I'm not sure I fully understand the questions being asked here, so please forgive my ignorance. The domain name is the name of my company but it's hosted by Microsoft and when I go to my company's web portal it takes me to my company's branded Office 365 Pro Plus site @ microsoftonline.com. In Outlook itself the account is listed as an Exchange account, but when I set it up on Android I have to choose Office 365 rather than Exchange to set it up, which is why I described it as an Office 365 account rather than a Microsoft Exchange account.

The Office 365 account is a large account - there are multiple calendars and maybe 100 folders. I guess there are in the region of a few thousand emails archived.

Not sure if that answers your questions or not.
These Microsoft Exchange services are IMAP type on an exchanges server.
OK, thanks. I'll bear that in mind for future discussions.

Can anyone help me sort the crashes out? Thanks
I've deleted the offending Sky/Yahoo email account from Outlook today and the crashes remain so I think I can be fairly sure now that the account was not the cause, but more likely the failure to access was symptomatic of the Outlook issues (or completely unrelated).

So, I still need help with solving these crashes if anyone can assist.
In case anyone cares I have solved this with the help of another forum. The winning response was:

"To start with login to Outlook, go to Options, Trust Center, addins and disable the Outlook Social connector and restart Outlook and see if this helps.."
Thank you for the update! For my issue I have that already unchecked so I need to figure out why my one mailbox is acting up.
