Hi Everyone!
I just got a new HP Pavilion dv6110us for Christmas. I want to use the internet service that I currently have on my PC. I am connected to MSN broadband through Qwest. It's not hooked up to the ethernet, but the other port. Is it possible to network these two computers and how exactly do I do this and what do I need to buy? Also, I have a split level house and the PC is upstairs and the laptop will be used mainly on the lower level directly below; will this affect being able to connect to the internet from the laptop?
Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thank you so much.

So, you have a PC and it's connected to the internet already.
Is your question, how do you get both computers to access the internet by using the same internet service provider via having your own network at your home? If so, I recommend purchasing a decent wireless router. Install the wireless router after your modem, connect the a LAN cable from the wireless router to the existing machine and then setup wireless on the new machine. Be sure to set up a secure wireless network. If you need more help let me know. According to what I read on your new HP, it has a built in 802.11g network card already.
That is what I recommend...:)

Yeah, if you don't need both to be wireless, then buy a wireless router, attached the older computer to it via a LAN cable, then setup the new one with wireless. As long as you aren't more than, lets say 300ft from the router in the house, then a standard 802.11g wireless router will do and be within range.

Be careful. From your query, you appear not to be connected via a network port. If your connection is USB, you will have to find a USB router, or swap the modem for one that has Ethernet ports, and not USB (or both).

Courtney sends....
