I have a friend who recently set up a wireless network, but needs help connecting his multi-function printer to all on the network. Can this printer be connected so the scanner to PC function works? All help will be appreciated.

Nope. I have the same issue, and I've looked for solutions, but so far none have surfaced.

There may be some network ready multi-function units that have the proper drivers, but most don't.

Is the multi-function printer connected directly to a machine, or a print server?

There may be some 3rd party solutions in that case. I was thinking print server. The previously posted application appears to offer that functionality.

The problem has been solved by a D-Link DPR-1260 wireless print server. It doesn't seem to support the scanning function but that they can live with. This print server does support scanning on some MFPs so maybe there is a way. I had a STAR Micronics printer that I
told the OS was some other dot matrix printer to use the graphics functions.

That's the sticking point that I have with my HP PSC-750 on a print server. I'd like to be able to use the scanner, but I don't want the computer sitting there turned on all the time. I have no problem with the print function using the print server.

John,

I seem to get pulled into solving networking problems more and more these days. What books, etc do you recommend to help me gain some tech expertise? As a retiree I have plenty of time.

Books? We don't need no stinkin' books! :D

Truthfully, I have a shelf full of networking books, but lately it's rare that I pull one out. Just solving networking issues and hanging around the Networking forum is a good start. :)
